Work in Progress…

by Tyler on January 4, 2014 at 1:05 pm

I just wanted to take a minute to address a going concern we’ve already been hearing a little about:

Yes. Our site looks like butts on mobile devices and tablets, and I’m sorry.

Since it’s been designed and built from scratch and we were in kind of a crunch to get it up and running it just didn’t happen in time. We’re a 2-sometimes-3 man operation and we thought that getting our content to your eyeballs was the paramount concern, even if it meant sacrificing at-your-fingertips mobile access for a little while.

Don’t worry! It’s coming.

…also our Donate page will be up and running sometime later today.

Woo!

Here. We. Go!

by Tyler on January 1, 2014 at 12:01 am

Welp. Here we are. Assuming nothing went wrong and exploded at the last minute, and the world didn’t end you should be reading the first of many pages of In the Year of the Rabbit.

Happy New Year!

I don’t really know what else to say right now. I mean, it’s been a year and a half? Two years? Awhile since we really started working on this and now we’re here. It’s real. You’re looking at it. The first version of the page you’re seeing was finished sometime early 2012 [EDIT: I’ve already been corrected, page one was finished October 2011] and at some point in 2013 I went back and retooled it to the page you’re seeing now.

You’ll hear me say that a lot. That I “fixed” this or “retooled” that. Not because I don’t love what I’ve done. Not because I’m not immensely proud of what James and I have built. I guess I just want what the content you guys see to be the best it can possibly be, always. I can’t help it. But when you love something like I love this comic you have to just take a step back and let it be. So here it is, our baby. Be kind to it. I hope you love it the same way we do.

Thank you. To everyone who’s reading this now. To everyone who might read this in the future. To everyone who was supportive while we worked to create what you’re going to see in the months to come. Thank you all.

Come back next Wednesday for our next issue!

Welcome

by James on January 1, 2014 at 12:00 am

I’m pretty proud to bring you In the Year of the Rabbit. I’ve had an absolute blast writing it, brainstorming, and rewriting it. I don’t think I could be much happier with the way it’s turned out so far.

In 2010, my fiancee and I adopted a rabbit. We would joke about running off with the bunny, and I imagined a variety of scenarios: me and a bunny riding the rails, bandits in the old west, but the one that struck me as particularly funny was a ronin and a bunny traveling Japan. In 2011, I asked if Tyler would draw me, my fiancee, and the rabbit in Edo period garb. He would not. Instead, we came up with the idea of having a comic.

What started as a way to write and draw something fun quickly turned into something with a serious storyline. The story begins in media res, and will visit the past and future of the protagonists. I hope to play on the tropes and formulae of samurai stories and create a worthwhile, interesting, and ultimately enjoyable story. Enjoy.
